Wild Boar Appears in Downtown Changwon... Glass Windows Broken and Citizens Injured in 'Commotion'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] On the 29th, a wild boar caused a commotion in downtown Changwon, Gyeongnam, injuring one person and breaking a store's glass window.
According to the police and Seongsan District Office, a total of 11 reports of wild boar sightings in downtown Changwon were received from around 2 a.m. to morning on that day.
The wild boar appeared and then disappeared in a park behind Changwon Jungbu Police Station in Sinwol-dong, Uichang-gu, Changwon, as well as in an apartment complex in the same neighborhood.
There were also sighting reports near an apartment complex in Sangnam-dong, Seongsan-gu.
The police and Changwon Fire Headquarters responded to the scene several times after receiving reports, but the wild boar had already fled by the time they arrived.
Around 6 a.m., a glass window of a clothing store in Sangnam-dong was broken.
The police believe the wild boar caused the damage, considering its appearance nearby.
Reports were also received at the community center that a man riding a bicycle to work in the morning was hit by the wild boar and injured his leg.
The wild boar finally was subdued after wandering inside an elementary school in Sangnam-dong at around 8:32 a.m. that day.
Police, responding to a report from a teacher on their way to work, arrived together with Changwon Fire Headquarters and hunters from the Changwon City Pest Animal Capture Team.
The wild boar was killed after being hit by two live rounds fired by the police and three shots fired by the hunters at 8:37 a.m.
Just before being killed, the wild boar roamed the schoolyard, forest, and gymnasium inside the school.
Fortunately, no damage occurred inside the school as there were not many students attending at the time.
A school official said, "Five to six students entering through the main entrance saw the wild boar running but did not encounter it directly, so there was no harm," and added, "We plan to teach students how to respond when encountering pest animals."
The police estimate that the wild boar repeatedly sighted in downtown Changwon was the same individual, considering that reports stopped after the morning.
A police official said, "It is possible that the wild boar came down from nearby Daeam Mountain, passed through several places, and arrived at the school."
