On the previous day (28th), Chairman Kim targeted Governor Choi on SNS, saying, "After the failure of Chinatown (Korea-China Cultural Town), is it Russia this time?" and sarcastically added, "I am curious about the brain structure that thinks of taking care of North Korea first when even the people of Gangwon Province cannot get the (COVID-19) vaccine."
He continued, "Our government says it has secured Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for the people, but if it says it will send Russian-made vaccines to North Korea, would North Korea really be happy?"
Chairman Kim also fired a direct shot, saying, "Right now, Gangwon Province is burdened with troublesome issues like the debt-ridden Pyeongchang Alpensia and the boy who cried wolf, Chuncheon Legoland. It is not the time for the governor of Gangwon to be chasing only communist countries."
This criticism was directed at Governor Choi's proposal to Kulik, the Russian ambassador to South Korea, to "allow the supply of the Russian-made COVID-19 vaccine 'Sputnik V' to Wonsan, North Korea."
On the 27th, during a meeting with Ambassador Kulik, who visited the Gangwon Provincial Office, Governor Choi said, "I am grateful that you trusted Korea Korus's Chuncheon factory and entrusted the production of the Russian vaccine," and proposed, "Please allow the supply of the Russian-made COVID-19 vaccine 'Sputnik V' to Wonsan, North Korea."
Previously, when Governor Choi, who was under public criticism over the 'Gangwon Chinatown' controversy, refuted it as "fake news" and said, "Let's fact-check," Chairman Kim proposed a public debate with Governor Choi, saying, "You are rather spreading lies."
