'Lifelong Learning Club Support Project' Discovering and Supporting Learning Clubs Formed by Residents... 'Neighborhood Learning Center Operation Support Project' Creating Lifelong Learning Environments in Residential Areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Cho) is set to actively promote the 2021 “Three Major Lifelong Education Support Projects” to expand and strengthen the culture of lifelong learning.
The “Three Major Lifelong Education Support Projects” aim to create jobs, enhance residents’ learning capabilities, and stimulate their motivation to learn through lifelong education programs, thereby spreading a culture of lifelong learning.
The projects are carried out in three areas: ▲Job-Linked Instructor Support Project ▲Lifelong Learning Club Support Project ▲Neighborhood Learning Center Operation Support Project. Fifteen projects were selected through a public contest held in February and March, and will be conducted from April to November.
First, the “Job-Linked Instructor Support Project” provides lecture opportunities to groups composed of individuals who have completed instructor training courses or obtained certifications at lifelong learning institutions operated (directly or by consignment) by Seocho-gu, contributing to job creation.
This year, five groups were selected to conduct lectures on topics such as ▲Introduction and guided tours of recommended exhibitions of the year ▲Making leather accessories in a color of one’s choice ▲Reading picture books and engaging in communication and activities ▲Friendly book play methods by an expert in English reading guidance ▲Learning about female figures by era according to the flow of Korean history.
Second, the “Lifelong Learning Club Support Project” supports voluntary and self-directed lifelong learning activity groups among residents to strengthen learning capabilities and foster a lively and vibrant lifelong learning culture.
Five clubs engaged in regular learning activities related to humanities, culture, and arts?not socializing or fellowship?were selected and supported in their learning activities. These include studying and discussing living in harmony with nature, talent donation activities for the local community based on the storytelling club members’ capabilities, and various learning activities such as reading, calligraphy, and emotional coaching.
Third, the “Neighborhood Learning Center Operation Support Project” satisfies residents’ lifelong learning needs by operating lifelong learning courses in small-scale spaces with high accessibility for residents.
Five selected learning centers will carry out various themed projects across four zones.
These include ▲“Mama Penguin Neighborhood Learning Center” (Seocho Zone), which trains learning coordinators targeting career-interrupted women ▲“Eco Art Life Neighborhood Learning Center” (Banpo Jamwon Zone), where participants can engage in upcycled home d?cor making, environmental theory lectures, and discussions ▲“Maison India Travel & Books Neighborhood Learning Center” (Bangbae Zone), which deeply studies Asia and travel humanities ▲“Needle Story Neighborhood Learning Center,” which communicates and creates works through knitting and sewing ▲“Healing Cooking Playground Neighborhood Learning Center” (two locations in Yangjae Naegok Zone), which fosters neighborly communication through cooking and teaches cooking to single-person households.
In particular, the Job-Linked Instructor Support Project and Neighborhood Learning Center Operation Support Project, where lecture programs are conducted, are open for participation and learning by Seocho-gu residents. To respond to the normalization of non-face-to-face activities amid the COVID-19 situation, programs will be conducted in both face-to-face and non-face-to-face formats. Interested individuals can apply for the courses they need through the recruitment announcements for each project.
Any Seocho-gu resident can apply, and all programs are free of charge. For further inquiries, please contact the Education and Sports Division of Seocho-gu Office.
