View original image[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 28th that it received a distress report from the nearshore jigging fishing vessel S (20 tons, 6 crew members) operating about 65 km off Seongsan, Jeju Island, and dispatched the national fisheries patrol vessel to safely rescue and tow the vessel and crew.
It was reported that around 11 p.m. on the 27th, while operating about 65 km southeast off Seongsan, Jeju Island, the net got entangled in the propeller, rendering the vessel unable to operate normally, prompting a request for rescue.
The Southern Sea Fisheries Management Unit dispatched the national fisheries patrol vessel Mugunghwa 33, which was operating in the nearby waters, and arrived at the scene around 6:40 a.m. that day to check the safety of the crew and hull and rescued the S vessel.

Park Young-gi, head of the Southern Sea Fisheries Management Unit, said, "Recently, marine accidents such as engine failures and propeller entanglements have been increasing in the waters around Jeju Island," and urged, "Please thoroughly check engine spare parts and safety inspections before departure."
