"Home Ludens Tribe Led This Year's Q1 Home Appliance Trends"
Electroland, Tablet PCs up 318%, Laptops up 37%, TVs up 24% in Sales
Home appliances that help with body care and relaxation, and appliances for those who enjoy cooking at home also popular
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Electroland announced on the 28th that the home appliance trend in the first quarter of this year was led by the 'Home Ludens' group. The term Home Ludens combines 'Home' and 'Ludens,' meaning play, referring to people who enjoy leisure and rest within their own living space without going far away.
Analyzing Electroland's home appliance sales from the first quarter (January to March) of this year, compared to the same period last year, tablet PC sales increased by 318%, electric heating devices by 206%, electric ovens by 169%, warmers by 148%, heaters by 138%, massage chairs by 82%, beauty care and health devices by 71%, dishwashers by 47%, electric ranges by 43%, clothing care devices by 40%, laptops by 37%, drum washing machines by 31%, and TVs by 24%. During this period, with the resurgence of COVID-19 and an unprecedented cold wave, many purchased home appliances that help enjoy rest at home.
The growth of 'home entertainment' appliances such as tablet PCs, laptops, and TVs, which help enjoy content at home, was remarkable. Electroland's recently resumed sales of game consoles and software were also so popular that they ranked first and second in first-quarter sales. Appliances that help with body care and relaxation, such as massage chairs, beauty care devices, and health devices, as well as appliances for customers who enjoy cooking at home, such as electric ovens, electric ranges, and dishwashers, also saw increased sales. Typical winter heating appliances also showed strong sales due to the cold wave.
Electroland expects the popularity of 'appliances that assist indoor living' to continue in the first half of this year. Electroland stated, "As an intense heat wave is forecasted this summer, sales of summer seasonal appliances such as air conditioners and fans, which underperformed last year due to the prolonged rainy season, are expected to increase."
