It is the ‘talent’ of university students. Just when it was needed but too daunting to do directly, they are receiving it as a bundle of gifts from the students.
Students from the Department of Social Welfare at Silla University (President Kim Chung-seok) are volunteering their talents to produce promotional videos for local social welfare organizations.
The media promotion club ‘Tapo’ of the Department of Social Welfare has been participating in the ‘Yongstar Reporters’ program operated by Yongho Comprehensive Social Welfare Center since April this year, producing videos.
Five students, including club president Lim Joo-ri, have also participated in producing promotional content for the cafe ‘Atti’ operated by the Busan Youth Comprehensive Support Center in six sessions since last November.
‘Tapo’ started in 2020 as part of a capacity-building education program conducted by the Department of Social Welfare.
Among the students who completed the program, those who shared a will to volunteer their talents to the local community formed ‘Tapo’.
The students recognized the need for non-face-to-face promotion of social welfare organizations during the COVID-19 era and have supported the production of promotional videos needed for social welfare organization websites and YouTube channels.
The Department of Social Welfare has focused on the increasing demand for non-face-to-face promotional content production for local social welfare organizations due to COVID-19.
To provide practical help to the social welfare field and to develop student capabilities needed in the changed environment, they have been conducting extracurricular promotion and media education since 2020.
Lim Joo-ri, president of the Tapo club, said, “As a student majoring in social welfare, I tried to produce promotional videos that embody the value of social welfare,” adding, “Although not at a professional level, I feel proud to participate in talent donation activities that will be of practical help to social welfare organizations.”
Park Sung-hoon, a social worker at Yongho Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, said, “Students visit our center to assist with YouTube video production and management,” and added, “At a time when the need for video production to promote social welfare services is increasing, the talent donation of Silla University’s Department of Social Welfare students is a great help.”
