CJ CheilJedang Expands Premium Juk Lineup with Three New Products Released
Composed of Jeonbok Samgyejuk, Hanwoo Beef Porridge, Jeonbok Naejangjuk, and more
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] CJ CheilJedang is expanding its premium porridge lineup.
CJ CheilJedang announced on the 27th that it has launched three new pouch porridge products: Jeonbok Samgye Porridge, Hanwoo Beef Porridge, and Jeonbok Naejang Porridge. The newly introduced products enhance quality while pricing them at about one-third of the price of porridge served at dining establishments.
Jeonbok Samgye Porridge contains domestic chicken, abalone, and fresh ginseng; Hanwoo Beef Porridge includes domestic Hanwoo beef, mushrooms, and various vegetables; Jeonbok Naejang Porridge features whole abalone including its savory innards.
As a shelf-stable pouch product that has grown the commercial porridge market, CJ CheilJedang plans to lead market expansion by emphasizing premiumization. The premium porridge category in the commercial porridge market began to take shape in earnest last year, growing more than fourfold compared to the previous year.
In fact, a survey conducted by CJ CheilJedang together with the consumer research firm Nielsen at the end of last year to understand consumer purchase and consumption behavior of commercial porridge found that consumers cited 'premium ingredients,' 'amount of solid contents,' and 'domestic ingredients' as key factors in purchasing commercial porridge.

A CJ CheilJedang official stated, “The commercial porridge market grew to about 150 billion KRW annually in 2020 and has established itself as a 'daily meal.' We will continue to introduce premium products that allow consumers to enjoy the taste of porridge traditionally eaten at dining establishments, maintaining efforts to satisfy consumers.”
