Jeongeup-si Selected for Final Phase of 'Life-Integrated Urban Regeneration Smart Technology Support Project'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 26th that it has been selected as the final target site for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's public contest project, the ‘Living-Oriented Urban Regeneration Smart Technology Support Project,’ securing 540 million KRW in national and provincial funding.
Accordingly, the city will invest a total project cost of 770 million KRW, including 230 million KRW of city funds, by April next year, focusing on the old downtown areas such as Suseong-dong, Sigidong, and Jangmyeong-dong.
The main project includes spending 350 million KRW to install 310 ‘smart fire detectors’ capable of detecting flames and smoke in locations with a high risk of fire to prevent fires and protect property.
The smart fire detectors will be linked to the control center for real-time monitoring, and in case of fire, will automatically report to the 119 emergency call center to support rapid emergency dispatch.
Additionally, the city plans to expand the application of the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) technique to prevent crime.
CPTED is a method that improves the design of vulnerable areas to psychologically and physically block crime opportunities and provide psychological stability to local residents.
The city will install 36 safe emergency bells applying CPTED in crime-prone areas with many old houses and narrow alleys, investing 215 million KRW.
Along with this, 105 million KRW will be invested to upgrade bus stops into smart bus stops equipped with heating, cooling, and air purification systems.
This will block harmful factors threatening citizens' health such as exhaust fumes, fine dust, and noise, and protect citizens' health from heatwaves and cold waves.
Furthermore, to solve parking space issues that make access to the old downtown difficult, the city plans to introduce a smart parking lot service with a budget of 100 million KRW, which informs the number of available parking spaces and supports mobile payment.
The smart parking lot service is expected to effectively alleviate the inconvenience of residents and visitors wandering aimlessly looking for parking.
