"Reporting Research Fund Embezzlement"… Korea Research Foundation Expands and Revamps Ethics Information Portal
Starting Direct Operations This Month to Strengthen Four Core Services
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] The National Research Foundation of Korea announced on the 26th that it has taken over the direct operation of the research ethics information service, which was previously entrusted to Seoul National University of Education, from the 1st of this month. The service has been expanded and reorganized into the "Research Ethics Information Portal," significantly enhancing core functions such as reporting and case guidance.
The existing service contributed to spreading awareness of research ethics through the provision of research ethics information and counseling. However, reporting research misconduct, research ethics education, and research ethics support programs were provided on separate websites, making it inconvenient for researchers and practitioners to utilize. For example, information on research ethics education had to be found within the research ethics education courses on the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information website.
To improve this, the foundation strengthened four core services through the expansion and reorganization into the "Research Ethics Information Portal." First, a reporting reception section was created to enable researchers and others to report research misconduct and suspicious activities more conveniently, along with providing related information. However, reporting is limited to research misconduct and suspicion related to projects supported by the National Research Foundation, and in other cases, the reporting centers of individual research institutions are guided.

Services have also been expanded to include expert counseling on research ethics issues encountered in the field, comprehensive information on various research ethics programs, online and offline research ethics education by target and field, strengthening university research misconduct verification capabilities (consulting, expert dispatch), provision of field-specific research ethics guides, and research ethics forums. The foundation plans to continuously add content on research misconduct cases needed in the field. The existing website address remains unchanged, and existing content and posts can still be utilized as before.
