Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Opens Applications for Local Governments' 'Month of Culture' Events
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that it will hold a public contest for local governments to host the ‘2022 Culture Month Events’ from April 26 to May 14.
Designated every October, ‘Culture Month’ is a legally recognized commemorative month established under Article 12 of the Framework Act on Culture to raise public awareness and understanding of culture and to encourage participation in cultural activities. During this period, the third Saturday is designated as ‘Culture Day,’ when commemorative ceremonies and major cultural events are held.
Since 1972, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the ‘Culture Month’ commemorative events, which have been held annually in rotation among local governments since 2003. This year, Chungcheongnam-do will host the ‘Naepo Root Culture Festival - Han (韓) Culture’ as the Culture Month commemorative event in October.
Local governments interested in this contest can submit the ‘2022 Culture Month Event Hosting Application’ and a project plan to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism via official documents. The ministry will form a selection committee to comprehensively evaluate the event promotion plans and other criteria, and plans to finalize the host location by the end of May.
