‘Job Crafting’ refers to the act of voluntarily and meaningfully changing or developing parts of one’s work that can be adjusted, thereby increasing job satisfaction.
As part of the ‘Using Easy Korean Words Project,’ the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with the National Institute of the Korean Language, has established and operates a system to provide alternative Korean words for foreign terms. Based on opinions proposed during the New Words Meeting held from the 16th to the 18th, the Ministry and the Institute thoroughly reviewed the appropriateness of meaning and usability, ultimately selecting ‘Voluntary Job Design’ as the alternative term for ‘Job Crafting.’
In this regard, from the 19th to the 21st, the Ministry conducted a survey on the ‘Public Acceptance of Korean Alternatives for Difficult Foreign Words’ with over 1,000 citizens. As a result, 74.9% of respondents agreed that it is good to replace ‘Job Crafting’ with an easy Korean term. Furthermore, 97.9% of respondents found ‘Voluntary Job Design’ to be an appropriate replacement for ‘Job Crafting.’
