Core Floors Composed of Media Art Exhibition and Kidult Specialty Zone
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] AK Plaza's community-friendly (NSC) shopping mall AK&Hongdae has begun a full-scale renovation to transform into a 'Taste Select Shop.'
On the 26th, AK&Hongdae announced, "We are gradually conducting a large-scale renewal in line with changing consumer trends." The theme of this renewal is 'Taste Select Shop.' It focuses on the rapidly changing 'value for sentiment' consumption trend of the MZ generation. Moving away from the existing food and clothing-centered store composition, a large number of specialty stores tailored to tastes have been introduced. The plan is to become a next-generation shopping mall where customers shop for their preferences. The core floors of the 'Taste Select Shop,' the 4th and 5th floors, will be made into an experiential media art exhibition and a kidult specialty zone representing Hongdae.
On the 4th floor, the media art exhibition "FLOWERS BY NAKED" by the creative content group Nature Labs is set to open on the 30th. The exhibition space and the flower art experiential caf? "Bites &" will also operate together. This exhibition features a secret garden that breathes and lives according to the cycle of nature, themed around flowers. AK&Hongdae stated, "Through interactive art, visitors can experience wonder with all five senses, making it a hip cultural space for young customers familiar with experiential media."
The 5th floor will focus more on specialty stores centered around the animation goods specialty shop "Animate." The "Animate" store, scheduled to open on the 1st of next month, will operate alongside the animation caf? "Popperble" and Hongdae's traditional comic bookstore "Buksatong Bookstore." The only One Piece animation specialty store in Korea, "Play One Piece," the used figure sales shop "Refun Shop," the gamer lifestyle specialty shop "Superplay," and the random goods purchase shop "Jeil Lottery Shop" have partially opened and are operating since April. Including the existing subculture content specialty brand "Mofun," this specialty store area is prepared as a large space of approximately 1,157㎡ (350 pyeong).
In addition, the AK&Hongdae renewal, conducted across five floors, has been partially opening renewed stores sequentially since March. The renewal of all floors is expected to be completed around June. On the 1st floor, the in-flight meal caf? "Taste the Happiness of Travel," directly operated by Jeju Air flight attendants, will run for three months starting from the 29th, offering customers a unique experience.

An AK&Hongdae marketing official said, "This renewal was designed as a shopping space that respects the tastes of the MZ generation, which has become the core consumer group of Hongdae," adding, "AK&Hongdae will continue to constantly consider what 'Hongdae style' means and actively reflect it in store composition to become a landmark of the Hongdae area."
