Minister Hwang Hee: "The Publishing Culture Industry is Korea's No.1 Content Industry... I Will Continuously Listen to Opinions"
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hwang Hee met with publishing industry stakeholders on the 23rd to listen to their difficulties and gather opinions on the development direction of the industry.
Minister Hwang attended the "World Book Day Commemoration Event" held at the Asia Publishing Culture Information Center within the Publishing Culture City in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, and emphasized, "The publishing culture industry is an important sector that ranks first in both sales and number of employees among Korea's content industries."
He added, "We expect the operation of the integrated publishing distribution network, officially launching this September, to improve the publishing distribution structure," and requested, "We ask for the industry's cooperation to ensure the successful establishment of the network." He further stated, "We will continue to provide channels such as forums to fully incorporate voices from the field in the process of establishing the '5th Publishing Culture Industry Promotion Plan' starting next year."
Minister Hwang also engaged in a conversation with citizens participating in the 'Online Book Dream' event via a video conferencing system. An elementary school student participating online from Bogildo Island expressed happiness about receiving books as gifts during the extended time spent at home due to COVID-19. The commemorative event was broadcast live from 2 p.m. on the Korea Publishing Culture Industry Promotion Agency's YouTube channel.

After the commemorative event, Minister Hwang held a meeting in the reception room of the Asia Publishing Culture Information Center with representatives from the Korea Publishing Culture Industry Promotion Agency, the Paju Publishing Culture City Resident Companies Association, the Korea Publishers Association, the Library Information Policy Committee, and the Korea Bookstore Association Federation, among other publishing culture industry stakeholders.
