Gwangju University Completes 'Happy I Mom Healthy Nurse' Training... Postpartum Care Service Launches
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Forty-seven health nurses who completed the ‘Happy I Mom Health Nurse’ training at the Department of Nursing, Gwangju University, have finished their graduation ceremony and will officially carry out the Gwangju-type postpartum care public service project.
According to Gwangju University on the 23rd, a health nurse training completion and postpartum care launch ceremony for the implementation of the Gwangju-type postpartum care public service was recently held at the small auditorium on the 3rd floor of Hosimgwan at the university.
The event was attended by President Kim Hyuk-jong, Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop, Gwangju Women and Family Foundation CEO Kim Mi-kyung, and Gwangju Nursing Association President Kim Sook-jung. The ceremony included the awarding of certificates, recognition of outstanding trainees, and the reading of the declaration for the launch of the Gwangju-type postpartum care public service.
At the end of the event, all attendees performed a colorful paper airplane flying performance along with the slogan “We love Gwangju, Aikiwoom Happy City Gwangju,” marking the official start of the Gwangju-type postpartum care public service.
The ‘Happy I Mom Health Nurse Training’ program of the Department of Nursing at Gwangju University was conducted over a total of 104 hours of theory and practice for four weeks starting from the 29th of last month.
The graduates became specialized postpartum health nurses through training in breastfeeding massage, emotional support, parental education, and newborn health care such as sleep management and massage. They are scheduled to be dispatched to households with mothers within 90 days postpartum starting next month.
In his congratulatory speech, President Kim Hyuk-jong of Gwangju University said, “In a situation where all universities feel a sense of crisis due to the worsening low birthrate problem and the decrease in school-age population, this support project is very meaningful,” and added, “Please provide high-quality health care services for mothers and newborns through the high-level theoretical and practical education completed at our university.”

Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop, in his encouragement speech, stated, “The Gwangju-type postpartum care public service will be implemented as a practical customized support service beyond simple household assistance,” and emphasized, “To solve the era’s problem of low birthrate, I ask you to carry out the service with a sense of mission.”
