Dobong-gu Calls for Participation in Reducing Disposable Products: Recruiting 'Environment-Loving Restaurants'
Recruitment until August 31, designation after on-site inspection, awarding Environment-Friendly Restaurant plaques, and providing incentives such as hygiene supplies support
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) is promoting the designation of 'Environment-Loving Restaurants' for eateries that participate in reducing the use of disposable products to address the increasingly serious issue of greenhouse gas reduction.
This initiative aims to encourage voluntary restraint on disposable product use among local residents due to the surge in plastic and disposable product consumption caused by increased demand for delivery food amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of single-person households.
The designation targets general and casual restaurants located in Dobong-gu, primarily those focusing on delivery and takeout, including cafes.
The designation criteria include ▲use of reusable containers and daily sterilization ▲use of eco-friendly containers ▲whether disposable spoons are provided with delivery orders ▲discounts offered when customers bring their own reusable containers ▲whether leftover food is packaged for takeout, among others.
The district will conduct on-site inspections based on evaluation items and select establishments scoring 70 points or higher as 'Environment-Loving Restaurants.'
Designated 'Environment-Loving Restaurants' will receive incentives such as a certification plaque and support with hygienic supplies like eco-friendly packaging containers.
Applications for the 'Environment-Loving Restaurant' designation can be submitted by fax or email (tlsgusrud94@dobong.go.kr) with the application form by August 31.
Subsequently, the district will verify compliance with the designation criteria around October, announce the results, and promote the designated restaurants. Evaluation criteria and application form downloads are available on the Dobong-gu Office website under 'Notices/Budget' in the 'Announcements' section.
Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu stated, “April 22 is Earth Day. In the current situation where various environmental pollution, ecosystem destruction, climate crisis, fine dust, and infectious diseases like COVID-19 are spreading as global issues, Dobong-gu, marking the first year of the new climate regime in 2021, will gather small actions from all generations to move toward carbon neutrality and sustainable Dobong.”
