[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] LG Display announced on the 21st that Vice President Oh Chang-ho, head of the TV division, was awarded the Order of Science and Technology Innovation Medal in celebration of 'Science Day 2021.'
The Order of Science and Technology is awarded by the government to individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of national science and technology, representing the highest honor for scientists and engineers.
Since joining LG Display in 1991, Vice President Oh has led the design and product development of LCD panels and next-generation technologies, including the development of large OLED TV products. He played a key role in the world's first mass production success of OLED TVs in January 2013, earning the medal for promoting the excellence of South Korean science and technology globally and contributing to enhancing the competitiveness of the display industry and pioneering new markets.
Based on OLED technology, he was recognized for commercializing the world's first rollable TV, which was previously impossible with conventional displays, thereby establishing a foundation for South Korea to continue leading the future display industry. The first mass-produced OLED TV product is exhibited at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History in recognition of its value.
