Drawing the Blueprint for Gangseo-gu Integrated Government Building
Implementation of International Design Competition for Gangseo-gu Integrated Government Building... Registration Open Until May 21... A Cultural Government Building with Residents, Anticipated as a Future-Oriented Smart Building
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) has begun drafting the blueprint to prepare the vision for the integrated government office building.
The district announced that it will hold a design competition for the construction of the integrated government office building being promoted in the Magok district.
The Gangseo-gu government office building is planned to be an integrated building housing the district office, district council, health center, and convenience facilities on a 20,244㎡ site at 745-3 Magok-dong, with completion targeted for 2026.
This design competition will be conducted as an international open competition, with participant registration accepted until May 21.
For domestic architects, those who have opened and registered an architectural office under the Architect Act, have no disqualifications under related laws, and are engaged in normal architectural work are eligible to participate. However, in the case of joint applications, companies with 200 or more registered technicians in the Korea Institute of Registered Architects or the Korea Construction Technicians Association as of the announcement date cannot jointly apply.
For foreign architects, those qualified as architects under the laws of their respective countries must apply jointly with domestic architects, and the joint application must be completed before submitting the competition proposal.
Participants who have completed registration must submit their competition entries by visiting or mailing them by 5 PM on July 19.
The district plans to select the final winning design through technical evaluation and first and second final reviews in July, and to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the briefing session will be held online in a non-face-to-face format.
The winner will receive a certificate along with priority negotiation rights for basic and detailed design. Other awardees will receive certificates and prize money.
The district plans to build the government office building as a cultural government building involving residents, enabling integrated administrative services, providing an open space for rest and leisure, and as a future-oriented smart building, completing it as a landmark of Gangseo-gu.
Currently, the Gangseo-gu office building, completed in 1977, has faced increasing safety issues due to aging, and maintenance budgets have been rising annually.
Also, due to limited space, the main office, annex, seven leased locations, district council, and health center have been operated separately, causing inconvenience to residents and difficulties in work coordination.
Accordingly, the district is actively promoting the construction of the integrated government office building, having completed feasibility verification by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and investment review by Seoul City last year.
Additionally, the district council’s shared property management plan review has been completed, so all administrative procedures are finished.
Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “The construction of Gangseo-gu’s integrated government office building will be a dignified building befitting the status of the developed premium city Gangseo, marking the start of a new 50 years and a symbol heading toward a future city,” adding, “We will select a design plan that Gangseo residents can be proud of through the international design competition.”
