Seongdong-gu, Resolving Residential Parking Shortages Using IoT Technology
Support for project participants including installation of IoT parking sensors, CCTV, parking space painting, and parking sharing signboards
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is recruiting participants for the ‘Residential Parking Lot Sharing Support Project,’ which allows external vehicles to use residential parking spaces during their vacant hours starting this year.
With the cost of creating one parking space reaching 200 million KRW, the district is promoting the sharing of residential parking spaces as a way to utilize existing parking areas. Noting the high potential for sharing in newly built one-room apartments with two or more parking spaces, the project targets not only general houses but also multi-family, multi-unit, and newly built one-room residences.
The ‘Residential Parking Lot Sharing’ system installs IoT parking sensors on the parking space floor, sending real-time notification messages to the homeowner when an external vehicle parks. Homeowners can monitor the parking lot usage through CCTV.
In particular, even without a parking lot manager, users (external vehicles) can conveniently reserve and pay for parking via mobile devices.
Accordingly, for homeowners troubled by frequent unauthorized parking in vacant spaces, participating in the parking sharing project can provide additional income and contribute to alleviating parking difficulties, explained a district official.
The district supports participants by providing IoT parking sensors, CCTV, parking space painting, and parking sharing sign installation. Those interested in sharing can apply by visiting or calling the Traffic Guidance Division of Seongdong-gu Office.
