Taxpayer Protection Committee Corrected 46 National Tax Service Audits Last Year
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The National Tax Service (NTS) announced on the 20th that the Taxpayer Protection Committee corrected 46 tax investigations last year that infringed on taxpayers' rights, such as duplicate investigations.
The NTS has established the 'Taxpayer Protection Committee' at its headquarters, seven regional tax offices nationwide, and 130 tax offices to handle matters related to the protection of taxpayers' rights fairly and transparently. The Taxpayer Protection Committee is composed mainly of civilian members.
Internal members of the NTS consist only of the headquarters' Taxpayer Protection Officer and one Taxpayer Protection Officer from each regional office and tax office. The chairperson is also appointed from among the civilian members, ensuring independent operation. Through this, if taxpayers' legitimate rights are violated during the execution of tax administration, the committee actively corrects the issues through fair deliberation.
Last year, the Taxpayer Protection Committee corrected 33 tax investigations that infringed on taxpayers' rights. Additionally, when taxpayers raised objections to the decisions of regional and tax office committees (which deemed corrections impossible), the NTS 'Taxpayer Protection Committee' conducted re-examinations and halted 13 tax investigations.

The NTS 'Taxpayer Protection Committee' works to prevent infringement of taxpayers' rights caused by institutional and procedural issues identified during the deliberation process. Last year, through the chairperson's authority to propose institutional and procedural improvements, the committee recommended clearly stating the legal grounds for selection reasons when selecting gift tax investigations. The committee also notifies the relevant departments of institutional improvement plans approved by the committee.
