Dongdaemun-gu Supports 50,000 KRW Installation Fee for Mini Solar Mini Power Plants
District supports 50,000 KRW per household for veranda-type solar mini power plant installation... First-come, first-served for about 1,000 households
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) provides installation support of 50,000 KRW per household to residents or building owners who install veranda-type solar mini power plants.
The total support budget is 52 million KRW, and approximately 1,000 households will be supported on a first-come, first-served basis until November.
The veranda-type solar mini power plant is a small solar power generation system under 1kW that can be connected directly to an outlet, available in two types: ‘stand type’ installed on balcony railings and ‘anchor type’ installed on building rooftops.
It can be installed not only in apartments and other multi-family housing but also in single-family homes and commercial buildings, and tenants are also eligible to apply.
When installing a 325W solar panel, it produces an average of 31kWh of electricity per month, which is similar to the monthly power consumption of an 821ℓ double-door refrigerator.
The average price of a 325W stand type product is 490,000 KRW, and with subsidies from Seoul City and the district combined, a total of 383,500 KRW can be supported, so the self-payment ranges from 50,000 to 110,000 KRW (depending on the supplier and product type).
For the 325W anchor type installed on rooftops, the subsidy amount is the same, and the self-payment is approximately 80,000 to 210,000 KRW.
Applications for installation can be made online through the Seoul Sunlight Maru website, or by calling the solar power call center or suppliers directly. Product information by supplier can be found on the Seoul Sunlight Maru website.

Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “Expanding the distribution of renewable energy such as solar power is not an option but a necessity to achieve carbon neutrality goals,” and added, “Installing solar mini power plants at home contributes to reducing greenhouse gases and saving electricity bills, so we encourage many residents to apply.”
