National Civil Defense Disaster Safety Training Institute to Operate 'ASEAN Disaster Management Capacity Building' Course Until the 29th
Spreading Korean-Style Disaster Management Know-How and New Technologies to ASEAN Countries
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety's National Civil Defense Disaster Safety Education Institute announced on the 19th that it will operate the "2nd ASEAN Disaster Management Capacity Building Course" online until the 29th for 20 disaster management officials from 10 ASEAN countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand.
The ASEAN officials participating in this training course will learn about Korea's disaster management system, Korea's COVID-19 response strategies, various advanced disaster management experiences and techniques, and disaster management activities of international organizations.
In particular, reflecting the characteristics of the ASEAN region, which suffers significant damage from natural disasters such as typhoons and floods, intensive education will be provided on Korea's flood and earthquake disaster management and natural disaster response and recovery systems. Additionally, trainees will have in-depth discussions and debate sessions on the current status of natural disasters and response methods in each member country.
Furthermore, since the training is conducted online over a long period, a Korean cultural experience program, which is highly popular among ASEAN trainees, will be held to enhance interest and engagement in the education. Through introductions to Korean cultural content popular in Southeast Asia such as K-POP, Korean dramas, and movies, trainees will have the opportunity to understand Korean culture, and a home-training style Taekwondo practice session that trainees can follow along with is also planned.
