[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The Gasan Digital Complex Station on the Gyeongbu Line (Line 1) is being reborn.
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Seonghun Yoo) is promoting a comprehensive renovation project for the aging Gasan Digital Complex Station.
As a transfer station between Line 1 and Line 7, Gasan Digital Complex Station has seen a steady increase in passengers due to the revitalization of the Gasan Digital Industrial Complex. According to a survey conducted last year, during the morning rush hours (5 a.m. to 10 a.m.), Gasan Digital Complex Station was the station with the highest number of passengers alighting among subway lines 1 to 9 and the Bundang Line.
However, since its construction in 1974, 47 years have passed, and aging facilities such as cracks, leaks, and paint peeling in the building have become safety concerns for passengers and have resulted in high maintenance costs.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korea Railroad Corporation decided to rebuild Gasan Digital Complex Station in 2019 and finalized the design plan through a public contest last year.
The total project cost is approximately 34 billion KRW, with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport covering 40% and Korea Railroad Corporation covering 60%.
The construction method involves first building a new elevated station building next to the existing station, then demolishing the old station and constructing an additional new building on that site to expand the station.
The new station's concourse area will be expanded from the current 0.42㎡ per person to 1.29㎡ per person. Convenience facilities such as escalators and restrooms, as well as passenger service spaces, will also be expanded.
The station entrances will be connected directly from the platform to the ground level without passing through the aboveground station building, enhancing passenger convenience.
The design for the new station has been completed, and construction permits are being processed. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year, with completion targeted for the second half of 2023.
Seonghun Yoo, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “With Gasan-dong in Geumcheon-gu recently selected as a candidate site for the Ministry of Land’s 3080+ housing supply pilot project, and with the reconstruction of Gasan Digital Complex Station, the residential environment in Gasan-dong is expected to improve significantly. We will continue to do our best to improve the living conditions and quality of life for Geumcheon residents.”
