Song Eon-seok, Who Assaulted Duty Officer in Vote Counting Situation Room, Leaves People Power Party
"Apologize for Causing Concern Due to Unfortunate Incident"
Even If Away from the Party, I Will Support with My Heart
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Song Eon-seok, a member of the People Power Party who caused controversy by assaulting a party official at the vote counting situation room set up at the party headquarters during the April 7 by-election, will leave the party on the 14th.
On this day, Representative Song held a press conference and said, "I deeply bow my head and sincerely apologize for causing concern due to this unfortunate incident," adding, "I intend to leave the People Power Party so as not to be a burden to the party any longer."
Song explained, "Since entering the National Assembly through the 2018 by-election, I have held party positions such as Deputy Director of the Yeouido Research Institute, Deputy Floor Leader, Chairman of the 2020 Economic Transformation Committee, and Vice President of Strategic Planning, working closely with party members and officials to lead the judgment against the Moon Jae-in administration. As a member of the Preparatory Committee for the United Future Party, the predecessor of the People Power Party, I laid the foundation for its launch, and immediately after the 21st general election, I was appointed Chief Secretary to the Emergency Response Committee Chairman, dedicating myself to rebuilding the party and securing victory in the by-election."
However, he said, "These efforts were undone in an instant when, during the preparation of the vote counting situation room, I expressed regrets about some aspects and used excessive language and behavior toward some party secretariat officials. I have nothing to say even if I had ten mouths. I sincerely bow my head and apologize to the parties involved, party members, and the public."
