Korean-style 'Digital Government' Enters Peru, Memorandum of Understanding Signed
Transfer of Korean-Style Digital Government to Peru, Supporting Market Expansion for Korean ICT Companies
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Korean-style digital government is making a full-scale entry into Peru.
On the 14th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Peruvian Prime Minister's Office to establish the "Korea-Peru Digital Government Cooperation Center" and agreed to transfer Korea's digital government experience to Peru. This MOU was signed remotely at the request of the Peruvian government to actively expand cooperation with Korea in the digital government sector.
From 2017 to 2019, Peru laid the foundation for its digital government by receiving support from Korea to establish a comprehensive regional informatization plan and planning the construction of a government data center.
Through this MOU, a digital government cooperation center will be established in Lima, the capital of Peru, for three years from 2021 to 2023, serving as a local base for the entry of Korea's digital government.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will dispatch experts to the cooperation center to provide policy and technical advice on digital government to the Peruvian government, while promoting cooperation projects worth about 1 million USD, including information system design and pilot implementation. This year, the focus will be on ?establishing a new digital government promotion strategy for the Peruvian government, ?studying ways to ensure interoperability of digital government services, and ?strengthening Peruvian public officials' capabilities related to new technologies.
Additionally, the Ministry will support Korean information and communication technology (ICT) companies in securing digital government-related projects in Peru. Currently, digital government cooperation centers have been established and operated in Serbia, Tunisia, and Uzbekistan, and this year, starting with Peru, additional centers will be set up in Cambodia and Indonesia.
Minister Jeon Hae-cheol stated, “The Digital Government Cooperation Center is a channel to share Korea’s experience, which ranked first in the OECD digital government evaluation, with many countries and symbolizes Korea’s international status as a leading digital government nation. We will further expand the role of the cooperation center as an advanced base for overseas expansion in the digital government field so that the brand value of our digital government can lead to the globalization of our IT companies.”
