[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Seo Byung-soo, a member of the People Power Party, has declared that he will not run in the next party leader election. He pointed out the problems of factional politics rampant in the political world and argued that the 2030 generation should create a new history.
On the 13th, Seo posted on Facebook, "I, Seo Byung-soo, will not run in the election to choose the leader of the People Power Party," adding, "Now, the young future generation must create a new history that surpasses the achievements of industrialization and democratization."
He said, "Now is the time for the party to be reborn as one that the people can openly support," and added, "Those who have considerable influence inside and outside the party, including myself, should not step forward at this time."
As the reason, he pointed out, "The reason we became known at all was because of the factional fights over the past decade, such as the pro-Lee and pro-Park camps," and questioned, "What can be achieved by becoming the leader of the People Power Party with power and organization gained as nourishment from factional politics?"
He continued, "This time, the democratization forces have been judged by the people for hypocrisy, corruption, incompetence, and double standards," diagnosing, "The people demand a new spirit of the times."
