According to the Jeonnam Police Agency on the 13th, from 9 a.m. this morning, the Anti-Corruption Economic Crime Investigation Unit 2 has been searching the mayor's office and the road department in Gwangyang.
Recently, Mayor Jeong Hyunbok has been embroiled in a conflict of interest controversy as a road was constructed on land owned by him and his children, and development proceeded on land owned by his wife.
Additionally, a report was filed with the police alleging that five people, including relatives of Mayor Jeong and children of those who helped in elections, were unfairly hired by Gwangyang City, and that the mayor illegally converted forest land to create three parking lots.
It is also known that a complaint was filed requesting an investigation into allegations of personnel favoritism involving public officials attending a certain church in Gwangyang.
