According to Haenam-gun on the 12th, the joint announcement held on the 9th in the county office situation room was attended by Myung Hyun-gwan, the mayor of Haenam-gun, and Jang Sung-mo, the superintendent of Haenam Office of Education, who explained this year’s educational support directions and key contents, and promised to establish a local educational cooperation system.
This year, Haenam-gun will invest a total of 17.9 billion KRW in 40 projects across four major areas including talent development and educational welfare to improve the youth educational environment and regional educational development.
First, to nurture future integrated talents, 4.2 billion KRW will be provided for scholarships, activation of arts and physical education, support for native-speaking teachers, and operation of foreign language experience centers.
In particular, to prepare for the intelligent information society, the Creative Convergence Education Experience Center will be newly supported for the first time this year, offering experiential education such as block coding, simulation drones, AR/VR experiences, and AI autonomous vehicles.
A total of 1.7 billion KRW will also be invested in four local high schools to provide customized support considering school characteristics, including special talents and aptitudes, dormitory fees, certification acquisition, and employment support.
In the field of educational welfare, 10.9 billion KRW will be provided for 19 projects. Universal educational welfare will be realized by providing school uniforms for 920 new middle and high school students, free high school education, free meals made with Non-GMO ingredients and eco-friendly agricultural products, milk supply for elementary, middle, and high schools, and fruit snacks in elementary after-school care classrooms.
Support will also be thoroughly implemented for school uniforms for new middle and high school students from multi-child families, college tuition support, education for multicultural family youth, meals for children at risk of food insecurity, and health and hygiene supplies for low-income female adolescents.
In particular, the Haenam Youth Complex Cultural Center is scheduled to open in July, which will expand cultural and leisure spaces for local youth and greatly improve youth welfare conditions.
To create a safe educational environment, which has become more important due to the spread of COVID-19, 1.9 billion KRW will be invested in seven projects.
To protect students from fine dust, more than 10 masks per person are being distributed to kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students. In addition, the youth safe return taxi service will be expanded for middle and high school students returning home after night study sessions.
Along with this, to activate Haenam-type educational programs linked with the local community, programs such as the Ttangkkeut Haenam Career Experience Support Center, village education community support, cultural heritage exploration, and rural study-abroad programs will be conducted. A total of 900 million KRW will be invested in eight projects for Haenam-type educational programs.
Mayor Myung Hyun-gwan said, “We will prepare for the centennial plan of education together with the Office of Education and the local community,” and added, “The county is also making every effort to support nurturing future talents and educational development, including promoting the establishment of a 50 billion KRW scholarship project fund for long-term educational environment improvement.”
