‘Draft Evasion’ Yoo Seung-jun vs. Government... Immigration Denial Legal Battle Resumes in June
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jun-hyung] The legal battle over the South Korean government's second entry ban on singer Yoo Seung-jun (American name Steve Seung-jun Yoo) will begin in June.
According to the legal community on the 10th, the Seoul Administrative Court's Administrative Division 5 (Chief Judge Jung Sang-gyu) will hold the first hearing for Yoo's lawsuit against the Los Angeles Consulate General of the United States, seeking cancellation of the passport and visa issuance refusal, on June 3rd at 3:30 PM.
Yoo sparked controversy over military service evasion after declaring his intention to enlist but then acquiring U.S. citizenship. The Ministry of Justice restricted Yoo's entry in 2002.
After being denied entry while attempting to enter with an Overseas Korean visa (F-4), he filed a lawsuit. In March last year, he won the final appeal at the Supreme Court. However, when the LA Consulate General again refused to issue a visa, he filed another cancellation lawsuit against the LA Consul General.
