Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop to Initiate Relay On-Site Dialogues with Autonomous Districts Starting from the 12th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, is promoting a relay on-site dialogue with autonomous districts to strengthen collaboration and directly communicate with citizens to address livelihood issues and solve regional problems together.
According to Gwangju City on the 9th, the on-site dialogues will be held on the 12th in Dong-gu, the 13th in Gwangsan-gu, the 14th in Buk-gu, the 15th in Nam-gu, and the 16th in Seo-gu. Mayor Lee will personally visit the five districts to explore cooperation plans for major district policies and engage in candid conversations with citizens.
The mayor’s tour of the five districts has been conducted annually, but it was canceled last year due to the impact of COVID-19.
While previous visits to autonomous districts involved touring district offices and simply listening to difficulties followed by budget support, this year focuses on strengthening communication by openly hearing citizens’ opinions.
First, the dialogues will be conducted as small-scale policy discussions tailored to the on-site themes, seeking mutual cooperation plans by identifying representative policies for each district. Considering the COVID-19 situation, about 30 to 40 people per district will participate in a roundtable format.
Additionally, the dialogue venues will move away from the traditional district offices to distinctive locations suitable for each district’s theme, with citizens related to the representative policies attending to facilitate in-depth discussions.
The representative policy themes for each district are ▲ Dong-gu (held at Miro Center): revitalization of culture, arts, and commercial districts in the Culture Complex area ▲ Seo-gu (held at Bityeoulchae Comprehensive Social Welfare Center): improvement of integrated care systems for the elderly and others ▲ Nam-gu (held at Gwangju Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency): urban regeneration ▲ Buk-gu (held at Cultural Neighborhood Park): renovation of facilities such as cultural centers and senior welfare centers, and expansion of park convenience facilities ▲ Gwangsan-gu (held at Pyeongdong Business Center’s Corporate Doctor Center): expansion of jobs and facilities for small and medium enterprises and industrial complexes.
