Gyeongbuk Province Partners with POSTECH to Foster 'Bio Industry' MOU
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do signed a mutual cooperation agreement with POSTECH on the 9th in the provincial government conference room to foster the bio industry in Gyeongbuk and for bio-related purposes.
Attending the agreement ceremony were Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Vice Governor Ha Dae-sung, POSTECH President Kim Moo-han, Planning Department Head Oh Ok-gyun, and Professor Cho Yoon-je of the Department of Biotechnology.
The main contents of the agreement include ▲ mutual cooperation in operation, research, and technology development of the Gyeongbuk Bioindustry Research Institute and exchange of research personnel ▲ discovering projects to develop the local bio industry and nurture small and venture companies ▲ joint response to various government and local government public contests and entrusted projects.
Gyeongbuk Province is promoting projects such as the bioindustry R&D technology innovation advancement project, the creation of a global innovation cluster for the vaccine industry, and a bio new drug development project based on convergence technology to foster the bioindustry, which is a future growth industry.
POSTECH, as a research-oriented university, also possesses research facilities such as the 3rd and 4th generation synchrotron radiation accelerators, the Plant Biotechnology Center (PBC) focusing on molecular medicine, plants, and nanobio, and the Bio Open Innovation Center (BOIC) fostering new drug development, artificial organs, and stem cell industries, playing a pivotal role in creating the regional bio ecosystem.
