Ahead of the Summer Monsoon!... Jungnang-gu Completes Landslide Prevention Project
Over 300 Million Won Invested to Reinforce Landslide-Prone Areas like Yongmasan and Bonghwasan... Formation of Periodic Self-Inspection Teams and Continuous Landslide Prevention Patrols from April to October
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will carry out a landslide prevention project by June, before the full onset of the rainy season.
This project aims to prevent safety accidents in advance as the likelihood of summer landslides has increased due to frequent heavy rains that are difficult to predict because of climate change.
The district plans to complete the landslide prevention project by the end of June, before the rainy season, to minimize casualties and disaster damage.
Over the past three years, the district has invested approximately 1.17 billion KRW to extensively maintain landslide prevention facilities at 10 locations, including Yongmasan and Bonghwasan.
This year, two sites, including the stream near Yongmasan Public Senior Welfare Center, will be maintained. By June, about 240 million KRW will be invested to carry out various maintenance projects in landslide-prone areas, such as slope protection, floor protection restoration, and tree planting.
Additionally, 60 million KRW will be invested to repair and maintain aging erosion control facilities at three locations, including Bonghwasan behind Taereung Middle School.
The district will organize internal inspection teams during vulnerable periods such as the thawing season, before and immediately after the rainy season, to conduct inspection activities.
The inspection teams will patrol landslide-prone areas and carefully check risk factors according to inspection items. They will verify erosion on slopes, floors, or rocks, and check for occurrences such as rock cracks, soil outflow, and falling rocks.
From April to October, including the heavy rainy period, a landslide site prevention team will be formed to conduct continuous patrols and inspections, such as checking sedimentation ponds and cleaning drainage channels.
