Wando Nohwa Chungdo District Launches Drainage Improvement Project with 9.6 Billion KRW in National Funding
Contribution to Disaster Prevention and Agricultural Activities through Installation and Maintenance of Drainage Gates and Expansion of Drainage Channels

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyungpil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 7th that the Chungdo area in Nohwa-eup, where habitual flooding occurs every year, has been selected as a new drainage improvement project site by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in 2021, securing 9.6 billion KRW in national funding.
The drainage improvement project is a fully nationally funded initiative aimed at preventing disasters by installing infrastructure such as drainage pumps in low-lying farmland areas of over 50 hectares that repeatedly suffer flooding damage during floods.
So far, the county has proposed the Nohwa Chungdo area drainage improvement project to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs since 2017, and in 2019, it was selected as a basic survey target site, with the Korea Rural Community Corporation completing the basic plan.
This year, detailed design will be carried out to install and maintain six new drainage gates and expand drainage channels by 1.3 km, with completion targeted for 2025.
Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, “The Nohwa Chungdo area drainage improvement project is expected to prevent disasters such as farmland flooding and contribute to stable farming activities. We will do our best to promote the project.”

Meanwhile, since 2004, Wando-gun has invested 24.5 billion KRW to complete drainage improvement projects in Wando Hwahung area, Shinji Wolbu area, and Nohwa Guseok area, and is currently promoting two projects including the Geumdang Samsan drainage improvement project.
