청와대 'Economic Sector Communication' Starts... Policy Chief Meets with Choi Tae-won
Lee Hoseung, Director of the Blue House Policy Office, to Visit Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Korea Federation of SMEs on the 7th Afternoon... Discussing Korean New Deal, Corporate Deregulation, etc.
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the 7th, the Blue House will begin its communication efforts with the business community, starting with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Lee Ho-seung, the Blue House Policy Chief, will visit the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the afternoon to meet with Chairman Chey Tae-won. One hour later, he will visit the Korea Federation of SMEs to have a meeting with Chairman Kim Ki-moon.
On the 8th, he plans to visit the Korea Employers Federation and the Korea Federation of Mid-sized Enterprises, and on the 14th, the Korea International Trade Association. Accompanying Lee Ho-seung on these visits will be Ahn Il-hwan, the Blue House Senior Secretary for Economic Affairs, and Lee Ho-jun, the Secretary for Industrial Policy.
The Blue House arranged this schedule after President Moon Jae-in called for active communication on corporate regulatory innovation on the 31st of last month. Lee, a former First Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance, will use this visit, which also marks his appointment as the Blue House’s ‘policy commander,’ to exchange views on overall economic issues.
In particular, since the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry serves as a communication channel for the business community, the discussion between Chairman Chey and Lee is the focal point of interest. Blue House spokesperson Kang Min-seok explained, "The agenda will include public-private cooperation measures to boost economic vitality," adding, "There will be various discussions ranging from the Korean New Deal and carbon neutrality implementation issues to regulatory easing."
The Blue House plans to actively participate in invitation meetings with economic organizations to ensure that this visit is not a one-time event. Although individual company visits are not included in this schedule, the Blue House is keeping the possibility open. A key Blue House official stated, "We will communicate broadly with large corporations, mid-sized companies, and small and medium enterprises alike."

Meanwhile, the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) is not included in this Blue House schedule. Although the Blue House has indicated it will not exclude any specific organization, the exclusion of the FKI may spark renewed ‘passing over’ controversy. A key Blue House official said, "We understand that the FKI overlaps with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Korea Employers Federation in terms of member companies," adding, "If necessary, we can have separate communications as well."
