KT Expands 'Global MEC Ecosystem' Through 5G Future Forum
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] KT announced on the 7th that it will recruit new telecommunications members for the 5G Future Forum until the 20th to expand the global 5G MEC ecosystem.
The 5G Future Forum is a global business alliance formed to promote the adoption and expansion of global 5G and to collaborate on 5G Multi-access Edge Computing (5G MEC). Currently, telecommunications companies representing each continent, including KT (Korea), Verizon (USA), Vodafone (Europe), Telstra (Australia), Rogers (Canada), and America Movil (Latin America), are members.
As a founding member, KT has been discussing business and technical agendas such as defining joint standards for the global expansion of 5G MEC since the launch of the 5G Future Forum in January 2020. 5G MEC is a technology that applies distributed cloud computing at the communication edge base stations to reduce network latency and enhance speed and security.
Newly participating members will have access to the 5G MEC standards and materials previously defined by the forum. They will also participate in new standard development, sharing best practices, and collaborating to discover global partners.
After recruiting new members, the forum plans to develop common standards that provide interoperability for 5G MEC distributed worldwide in the US, Asia, and the Pacific. Once the 5G MEC common standards are defined, the overseas expansion period of 5G MEC services will be shortened, allowing customers to receive the latest technology-based services more quickly.
