Kim Jong-un's Workers' Party Cell Meeting, "Party Cells Must Not Be Neglected"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] North Korea held a conference of the 'lowest-level' cell secretaries of the Workers' Party, emphasizing that party cells must become the core in eradicating antisocialist phenomena.
Korean Central News Agency reported on the 7th that "The 6th Conference of Cell Secretaries of the Workers' Party of Korea opened on April 6 in Pyongyang," led by Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party.
At this conference, North Korea stressed the eradication of antisocialist and non-socialist elements and called for the role of the party cells, the lowest-level party organization.
Party Organization Secretary Jo Yong-won stated in his report, "Party cells must become the starting point for sweeping away antisocialist and non-socialist elements, wage fierce struggles, and create a strong wind to establish moral discipline."
Since adopting the 'Law on the Rejection of Reactionary Ideological and Cultural Elements' in December last year, North Korea has consecutively held party conferences and plenary meetings this year, warning of punishments for cadres who tolerate so-called antisocialist acts such as the influx of foreign goods, tightening the reins of social control.
Secretary Jo pointed out shortcomings in the struggle against antisocialist and non-socialist elements, the failure of party cells to firmly advance the work of establishing Kim Jong-un's sole leadership system, and inadequacies in guiding party members' ideological training.
General Secretary Kim also noted in his opening speech, "There were not a few defects in the work to strengthen party cells and enhance their roles," adding, "Even if these defects are partial and small, they must never be neglected."
Kim further explained the background of the conference, stating that the implementation of the 8th Party Congress decisions "depends on the roles of the party cells, the lowest grassroots organizations of the party, and the combat power of the party cells is determined by the cell secretaries." He said that with the rapid generational change of cell secretaries underway, he plans to regularly meet with cell secretaries across the party to discuss work.
The news agency reported that the conference will review the actual work of party cell secretaries and discuss improvement measures, describing it as "a meaningful occasion to more thoroughly establish the sole leadership system of the General Secretary, strengthen the unity of the revolutionary ranks in all respects, and bring about a breakthrough in implementing the party congress decisions and socialist construction."
The conference was attended by 10,000 people, including exemplary cell secretaries from production sites, party cell secretaries from various sectors, responsible party cadres from provincial and city levels, secretaries responsible for party affairs at city, county, and combined enterprises, and relevant cadres from the Party Central Committee.
Party cells are the lowest-level party organizations consisting of 5 to 30 members, and the party cell secretary is the head of this organization.
