Lee Jae-myung: "Gyeonggi Province Will Take Responsibility for Education, Jobs, and Welfare for Middle-aged and Elderly"
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, announced that Gyeonggi Province will invest 40 billion won, the first among metropolitan local governments nationwide, to support education, jobs, and employment assistance for middle-aged and elderly people, and pledged to expand more projects.
On the 6th, through Facebook, Governor Lee said, "These days, many people shed tears while watching the retired grandfather drama 'Nabillera,'" adding, "Some compare the voting rates of youth and the elderly and say that youth welfare is weaker compared to elderly welfare, but I tend not to agree with that approach. Currently, both the lives of youth and the elderly in our society are very desperate."
He then questioned, "Does that mean everyone else besides youth and the elderly is prosperous?" and added, "At this very moment, all of us are living fiercely so as not to become a burden to our children in old age."
Furthermore, he explained, "In politics and administration, I always focus on solving the minimum rights and livelihood issues of our society," and said, "The reason I emphasize and advocate for universal economic basic rights such as basic income, basic housing, and basic finance is because of this."
Accordingly, Governor Lee introduced, "Today (the 6th), Gyeonggi Province announced the establishment of the 'Middle-aged Happiness Campus,' the first among metropolitan local governments," and said, "We will invest 40 billion won in 23 projects including counseling, job training, and retirement preparation support."
