Chungnam Province Accepts Resignation of Autonomous Police Committee Chair over 'Police Station Water Incident'
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province has accepted the resignation of Oh Yeol-geun, the inaugural Chungnam Autonomous Police Commissioner, who caused a disturbance at a local police station.
On the 6th, the province announced that it received Oh Yeol-geun's resignation the previous day and accepted it, thereby processing his resignation.
Earlier, on the 2nd, Commissioner Oh reportedly got into an argument while discussing the operation of the autonomous police system with a police officer working at the Cheongsu Police Station in Dongnam-gu, Cheonan, during which he threw a paper cup filled with water and verbally abused the officer.
The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances, viewing Commissioner Oh's actions as obstruction of official duties.
Until a new commissioner is appointed to replace Oh, the Secretariat of the Chungnam Autonomous Police Committee will act as the interim authority.
