'Overseas Technical Regulation Information from 10 Countries, 319 Items at a Glance'
KATS to Launch Overseas Technical Regulation Map Service on the 6th
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will launch the 'Overseas Technical Regulation Map' service on the 6th, allowing companies to easily find information on overseas technical regulations for export products by country.
The institute provides detailed analysis information on 59 certification systems and 260 technical standards related to mandatory regulations in promising export items from the top 10 export countries including the United States, Japan, and China, covering areas such as electrical safety, electromagnetic waves, wired and wireless communication, energy efficiency, and hazardous substances. Companies can request additional overseas technical regulation information or share information they possess.
An official from the institute explained, "It is limited for our export companies to individually investigate and analyze trade technical barrier (TBT) information applied to various countries and items. Accordingly, we have established the Overseas Technical Regulation Map, which allows a comprehensive view of current certification systems, local testing and certification institutions, detailed technical standards, and the status of enactment and revision of related technical regulations."
When TBT difficulties arise, most medium-sized and small enterprises receive external support rather than resolving issues independently, and some companies even give up on exports.

Lee Sanghoon, head of the institute, stated, "The Overseas Technical Regulation Map will serve as a wellspring to quench the thirst for TBT information for small and medium-sized enterprises lacking TBT response capabilities. Starting with technical regulation information from the top 10 export countries, we will continuously improve related information by expanding to countries in the New Southern and New Northern regions and South America, where export market entry potential is high."
