The Corruption Investigation Office Receives Public Interest Report Records on the 'Kim Hak-ui Case'
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency (HCIA) has received records of a public interest report related to former Deputy Minister of Justice Kim Hak-ui's alleged illegal travel ban from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC).
According to the legal community on the 5th, the HCIA received records of a public interest report alleging that key officials and public servants at the Ministry of Justice abused their authority and violated the Immigration Control Act and the Personal Information Protection Act in relation to the travel ban on former Deputy Minister Kim.
On the 30th of last month, the ACRC stated that after verifying the contents of the whistleblower's report, it "judged that an investigation was necessary" and decided to request an investigation by the HCIA.
The HCIA is expected to review the ACRC's report and determine whether to investigate after assessing similarities with the ongoing "Kim Hak-ui case" being investigated by the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office.
