[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] Former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk recently mentioned Democratic Party lawmaker Park Jumin, who lowered rent and renewed a lease with a tenant, stating, "The difference between the Democratic Party and the People Power Party is the difference between Park Jumin and Joo Ho-young."
On the 4th, Cho posted on his Facebook, "Some may criticize that both are landlords with houses or 'the wealthy,' but they are clearly different. If you were a tenant, which landlord would you prefer to meet?" he said.
Cho explained, "Park Jumin signed a new contract with a new tenant, lowering the deposit from 300 million won to 100 million won and raising the monthly rent by 9%. When criticized for raising it by more than 5%, he apologized," adding, "He resigned from his position in the Park Young-sun campaign and subsequently signed a renewal contract reducing the monthly rent by 9%."
He then pointed out, "Joo Ho-young responded to criticism over raising the jeonse deposit by 23% by saying, 'It was adjusted according to market prices. If I charged less, it would harm the neighbors,' and left it at that."
Last July, just before the passage of the 'Lease 3 Act,' it was revealed that Park had raised the rent of his apartment in Sindang-dong, Seoul, by 9.1%, drawing criticism for hypocrisy.
In response, Park explained, "Since it was a new contract, it was not subject to the application of the monthly rent conversion rate under the Housing Lease Protection Act, so market prices had to be the standard," and subsequently resigned from his position as head of the Digital Public Relations Division in the Park Young-sun Democratic Party Seoul mayoral campaign.
Meanwhile, it was also revealed that Joo Ho-young, floor leader, raised the jeonse deposit of his apartment in Seocho-gu, Seoul, by 23.3% last year, sparking controversy. On the 2nd, he appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and said, "It was in May last year, before the 21st National Assembly convened, and before real estate prices or jeonse deposits surged significantly," adding, "It was done according to the surrounding market prices when a new tenant moved in."
