Sejong-si Extends Temporary Emergency Welfare Until the First Half of This Year
[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City is extending the temporary emergency welfare support period and easing the eligibility criteria.
According to the city on the 5th, the operation period of the "2021 COVID-19 Response Temporary Emergency Welfare Support," which was scheduled to end on the 31st of last month, will be extended until June 30.
Emergency welfare support refers to providing temporary living expenses and other assistance to households with a crisis reason that makes maintaining their livelihood difficult, specifically those with an income below 75% of the median income standard.
In particular, the city is easing the eligibility criteria along with extending the emergency welfare support operation period. The property standard has been adjusted from the previous 118 million KRW or less to 200 million KRW or less, and the restriction period for reapplying for the same crisis reason has been reduced from 2 years to 3 months.
Additionally, the deduction rate for financial assets as living preparation funds has been expanded from 65% to 150%, aiming to relax the financial asset criteria.
Emergency welfare support recipients can receive 1,266,900 KRW for living expenses and 422,900 KRW for housing costs based on a four-person household.
Moreover, they can receive additional benefits such as medical expenses, education expenses, and childbirth/funeral expenses up to 3 million KRW.
However, recipients who are receiving similar government support funds such as emergency employment stabilization funds, small business owner support funds, or basic livelihood benefits are excluded from this support.
Applications for emergency welfare support can be made at the Welfare Policy Division’s Livelihood Security Office at City Hall or at the administrative welfare centers in the respective eup, myeon, or dong of the applicant’s address.
