Japan Reports Over 2,000 New COVID-19 Cases for 5 Consecutive Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] The number of new COVID-19 cases in Japan has remained in the 2,000 range for five consecutive days.
According to NHK on the 3rd, 2,774 new COVID-19 infections were confirmed nationwide in Japan on that day.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 484,016, and with 7 additional deaths reported that day, the death toll reached 9,236.
Japan's daily new cases continue to exceed the levels seen in early February this year when a state of emergency was in effect in 11 out of the 47 prefectures nationwide.
Since the state of emergency was last lifted on the 22nd of last month in the four metropolitan areas including Tokyo, new cases have surged nationwide.
The increase is particularly notable in Osaka.
Osaka Prefecture, with a population of 8.8 million, recorded 666 new cases on that day, surpassing Tokyo Metropolis, which has 14 million residents and reported 446 cases, marking the fifth consecutive day Osaka has outpaced Tokyo.
As of that day, the cumulative confirmed cases in Tokyo stood at 122,347, about 1.3 times higher than Osaka's 54,096 cases.
