Kwon Deok-cheol's 'National Address' on COVID-19 Tomorrow
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] Kwon Deok-cheol, the first deputy head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) and Minister of Health and Welfare, announced on the 4th that he will deliver a public address regarding the COVID-19 situation.
On the 3rd, the CDSCH stated via text notification, "The regular briefing held at the Government Seoul Office starting at 5 p.m. on the 4th will be conducted in the form of a public address by Deputy Head Kwon regarding the current COVID-19 situation."
Deputy Head Kwon is expected to explain the COVID-19 outbreak situation and urge individual cooperation from the public to prevent the fourth wave.
At a previous CDSCH meeting, Deputy Head Kwon said, "With the arrival of spring and increased mobility, confirmed cases have exceeded 500. Cluster infections are rising in multi-use facilities such as restaurants and entertainment establishments, densely populated workplaces like call centers and logistics centers, as well as vulnerable facilities such as schools and daycare centers," adding, "It appears that COVID-19 is spreading across all daily life spaces, signaling the onset of the fourth wave."

He also explained, "We are at a crossroads between achieving herd immunity through vaccination and the realization of the fourth wave. If the fourth wave occurs at this stage when vaccination for the general public has begun, the exhaustion of limited medical personnel will disrupt the smooth progress of vaccinations."
