Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "No Reports of Korean Casualties in Taiwan Train Derailment Yet"
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 2nd that there have been no reports of damage to our nationals so far in relation to the train derailment accident in Taiwan that resulted in dozens of deaths.
An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on the same day, "We are currently monitoring the situation through the Taipei Mission in Korea." It is estimated that about 8,000 Koreans reside in Taiwan.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Taipei Mission in Korea requested the local fire authorities to promptly inform them if there are any Korean casualties. Additionally, a consular officer was dispatched to the accident site.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "Together with the Taipei Mission in Korea, we will continue to monitor the situation and provide necessary consular assistance if any damage to our nationals is confirmed."

According to local Taiwanese media, the train derailment inside the tunnel has resulted in about 50 deaths and over 150 passengers injured as of this afternoon.
