Hwasun-gun Cancels Spring Festival Again This Year Due to COVID-19 Impact
[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeollanam-do Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 2nd that the representative spring festivals, ‘Dongguri Lake Park Spring Festival,’ ‘Hwacheoksan Azalea Festival,’ and ‘Baegasan Azalea Festival,’ will be canceled again this year following last year.
The county took this extraordinary measure through the festival organizing groups of the respective towns and townships to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect the safety of residents amid the ongoing high number of confirmed cases.
The ‘Dongguri Lake Park Spring Festival’ is a festival loved by spring visitors, where the azaleas of Suman-ri, Manyeonsan Mountain, and the spring scenery of Dongguri Lake Park harmonize beautifully.
The ‘Hwacheoksan Azalea Festival’ is famous for its 2-hectare rapeseed flower field where visitors can enjoy both azaleas and rapeseed flowers together, and the ‘Baegasan Azalea Festival,’ held alongside the 6.25 War Victims Memorial Ceremony, is a festival to enjoy spring azaleas while reflecting on historical significance.
Although it is regrettable that these festivals bringing the scent of spring have been canceled for two consecutive years, local residents accept the cancellations given the severe COVID-19 situation.

A county official said, “It is unfortunate that the spring festivals have been canceled again this year due to the impact of COVID-19, but realistically it is difficult to hold them. We will prepare next year’s spring festivals more thoroughly to make up for this year’s disappointment twice over.”
