Jeonnam Province to Establish 'Clean Seafood Wholesale Market' in Yeosu
Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Selects Yeosu Fisheries Cooperative This Year Following Goheung in 2019

Jeonnam Province announced on the 1st that the Yeosu Fisheries Cooperative was selected as the 2021 clean fish auction market project operator by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
The clean fish auction market is a new concept auction market model equipped with innovative hygiene facilities for all processes of seafood handling, including unloading seafood from boats, sorting, auctioning, and delivery.
Following the Goheung Fisheries Cooperative in 2019, Yeosu Fisheries Cooperative was selected this time, promoting the construction of two clean fish auction markets in Jeonnam.
The Goheung Fisheries Cooperative is currently constructing its market at Nokdong Port and is scheduled to be completed within the year.
Strict hygiene management is possible through separation of auction and unloading spaces, use of purified seawater, installation of low-temperature auction facilities, and application of advanced hygiene safety systems such as automatic sorters.
According to the selection, Yeosu Fisheries Cooperative will invest 6 billion KRW to build the Yeosu Fisheries Cooperative clean fish auction market at Yeosu Gukdong Port by 2023. The building will be three stories above ground (total floor area 3,979.5㎡) and will handle only dried seafood.
The province plans to expand the fresh distribution and hygiene safety system for seafood through government public projects by establishing five additional sanitary safety systems at production sites, including clean fish auction markets, by 2025.

Wi Gwanghwan, Director of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, “Following the first public contest in 2019, Jeonnam was selected in both contests. We will build both locations as the best hygiene-managed auction markets in Korea to supply the public with clean and safe seafood.”
