Sejong Telecom Collaborates with Asian Digital Infrastructure Innovator 'Digital Edge'
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Sejong Telecom signed a strategic partnership agreement on the 1st with Digital Edge Holdings, an Asia-based data center and digital infrastructure platform company, for an Internet Data Center (IDC) business alliance.
Digital Edge, headquartered in Singapore, was established to bridge the global digital divide and complexity, and operates digital infrastructure platform businesses primarily across several Asian regions. Founded in 2020 by executives with decades of experience from Equinix, Facebook, Macquarie, and Tata Communications, the company currently has subsidiaries in five Asian countries and operates network-neutral data centers.
This agreement was made in recognition of the accelerating digital transformation and the need for sustainable data centers amid the rapidly changing global data center market, aiming to jointly promote data center and digital infrastructure businesses targeting the global customers of both companies.
Through this agreement, the two companies will establish a close cooperative relationship by ▲ transferring sales of the Yeoksam and Busan data centers ▲ dedicated data center lines, internet access and interconnection ▲ cooperation in data center operation services (technical and sales) ▲ discovering strategic business models, and plan to continuously expand their data communication business.
Sejong Telecom will solidify its position as a telecommunications infrastructure and facility provider even after selling the Yeoksam and Busan data centers, while continuing its dedicated line business for enterprises without reduction. Additionally, by leveraging Digital Edge’s global infrastructure, it plans to continuously secure new demand, strengthen its global business model, and provide customers with a one-stop connectivity service that connects them worldwide.
The domestic data market recently has seen various new entrants competing aggressively, yet it maintains a unique environment where reliance on specific telecom operators is necessary. Digital Edge adheres to the principle of neutral network interconnection among all domestic and international telecom operators, and through this cooperation, it is expected that a customer-centric network and data center usage environment will be realized domestically, allowing users to freely select and interconnect the networks they desire.
Through close business cooperation, the two companies plan to create differentiated value-added services beyond existing data center services, enhancing business value, while also jointly constructing new data centers and engaging in strategic cooperation in technology, marketing, and sales.
Yoo Ki-yoon, CEO of Sejong Telecom, stated, “All companies are making thorough efforts in new IT strategies including data collection and operation for digital transformation. To quickly respond to customer changes and survive competition with domestic and international operators, capabilities to provide customer-centric hyperscale data centers and telecommunication environments are essential.” He added, “Through cooperation with Digital Edge, we will break through the restrictive domestic network environment and provide customers with connectivity experiences connected worldwide.”
