'Safety First' Gyeongnam Province Disabled Sports Festival Tentatively Postponed to Second Half of the Year
Decision Considering the Safety of Participants and Residents, Consultation with Changwon City and Related Agencies
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The 24th Gyeongsangnam-do Disabled Sports Competition, originally scheduled to be held in May, has been tentatively postponed to the second half of the year.
Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 1st that the 24th Gyeongsangnam-do Disabled Sports Competition, which was scheduled to be held in Changwon from May 12 to 13 for two days, has been postponed to the second half of the year.
This decision was made considering that the recent spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has not subsided and that herd immunity has not been established through vaccination.
Accordingly, after consultations with related organizations including the host city Changwon, it was concluded that holding the competition would be difficult without ensuring the safety of participating athletes and residents.
The Gyeongsangnam-do Disabled Life Sports Competition has been held annually by rotating through cities and counties within the province to expand the base of life sports for people with disabilities.
In particular, starting this year, the competition period was planned to be extended to two days, and the number of sports events was increased by four to a total of 27 events, with about 4,000 people with disabilities expected to participate.
The province and the Gyeongsangnam-do Disabled Sports Association plan to discuss the new competition dates once the COVID-19 spread subsides.
