[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] Kim Geunsik, Head of Vision Strategy Office of the People Power Party, criticized Rep. Park Jumin of the Democratic Party of Korea's explanation regarding the rent controversy, saying it was "closer to an 'AI statement' rather than an out-of-body experience."
Kim said in a post on his Facebook on the 31st of last month, "Since his first term in 2016, Rep. Park Jumin has loudly criticized landlords' tyranny and advocated for tenant protection, insisting that even if the sky falls, a 5% rent increase is absolutely unacceptable, while pushing the Rent Protection Act through," expressing this view.
Kim added, "Is Rep. Park Jumin, who sponsored the Rent Protection Act in 2020, the same person who signed a contract with a new tenant of his apartment at a 9% increased rent just one month before the enforcement of the Rent Protection Act 3? Is he the same Rep. Park Jumin who, through a real estate agency in Kumho-dong, was fully aware of the contract process yet blatantly agreed to a 9% increase?" He sarcastically questioned, "I can't believe these two very different sides are the same person. Could one of them be an AI lawmaker?"

Rep. Park's rent increase on his own apartment about a month before the passage of the Rent Protection Act 3 last year has sparked controversy. In a statement, Rep. Park apologized, saying, "I regret not being meticulous enough and failing to sign the contract at a price significantly lower than the market rate," and promised, "I will be more careful in the future to ensure this does not happen again."
