KT, Korea's First 'Digital Health Pass' Platform Established
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] KT is collaborating with Incheon International Airport and Inha University Hospital to establish the country's first 'Digital Health Pass' platform. Based on its accumulated ICT-based infectious disease response capabilities, the goal is to lead global quarantine efforts in the 'post-COVID' era and support the safe overseas entry and exit of Korean citizens.
According to KT on the 1st, the tripartite business agreement ceremony held at Incheon International Airport Corporation in the afternoon was attended by KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo, Incheon International Airport Corporation President Kim Kyung-wook, and Director Kim Young-mo of Inha University College of Medicine Hospital. Going forward, the three parties will take the lead in ▲ introducing ICT-based quarantine processes within the airport and establishing policies ▲ building platform and application services to support safe travel ▲ promoting the activation of 'travel bubbles' (allowing free travel between countries with excellent quarantine measures) for the early normalization of overseas entry and exit.
The Digital Health Pass is a COVID-19 test result and vaccination certification platform designed to support the safe overseas entry and exit of citizens amid restrictions on international travel due to the impact of COVID-19. When a negative COVID-19 test result is obtained at a designated hospital before departure, the test result is automatically linked to the app, allowing the issuance of a Digital Health Pass to be used at the airport during departure.
Incheon International Airport and Inha University Hospital opened a COVID-19 testing center on the west side of the basement level 1 of Terminal 2 last December for the convenience of airport users, and from March 1st, added rapid PCR testing, enabling passengers to receive test results and depart within about two hours. KT is implementing the business process as an ICT-based platform, supporting simple entry and exit with a single Digital Health Pass, and plans to expand this into a global service. The three parties also aim to lead a global airport quarantine model through cooperation with overseas airports.
